Scrum team - handling analysis work on future dev?
A redditor asked the following question:
Question#
Relatively new Scrum Master here looking for advice on the scrum model and what others do when developers would like to investigate/analyse as a team some future work to be able to refine it effectively?
At the moment we currently allow a couple of hours a day for work outside the sprint activity, I’m a fan of putting a sizing estimate on the analysis work and having that prioritized for a sprint but wondering if there’s a correct/better way of doing this.
My answer#
I believe in keeping the initial analysis shallow before starting work. In-depth analysis should be reserved for the sprint itself. Do just enough to prepare for the sprint you’re targeting. The key is to define the scope and goal of the PBI, not focus on how it will be achieved—such as changes in the code, features, or APIs. While it’s good to have a rough plan, the details should emerge during regular development.
